I have 40 years total in the U.S. About 25 years in CA. Hawaii is about 15 years.

I originally came to the US as an international student. At that time, I could not speak English at all, but
I attended a vocational school in Japan to prepare for studying abroad.

I came to the U.S. with a good command of English, but I could not speak it. Then,
one day, six months later, all of a sudden, I could speak and hear better than ever.
That day, I went to New York City to play, and experienced 3 days of free time, and I had to
do things on my own, and if I couldn't speak, I would get lost in New York City, and
not be able to return to my hotel.

After that, I learned to speak English, and it has been 40 years since then, and I am not involved in any Japanese
community except here.

I don't study English, I just get used to it.

If your partner cannot speak Japanese, you will have to communicate in English, so your English ability will improve.
Many women are fluent in English because there are many international marriages in Hawaii, but there are couples who don't get along with their husbands or don't speak at all
Even if they have been in Hawaii for several decades, some of them remain at a daily English conversation level. Even if they are a masked couple, they will improve if they use English at work.
I think it depends on their own efforts.
While you are in Japan, I think it would be good to get used to hearing English while having fun with western movies and music.

I know that everyone who has responded here is very talented, but there are others like me who are not, so I just wanted to say a few words.
I was at the junior high school level when I moved to Hawaii and went to an adult school in Hawaii, but I was not immediately fluent in English. My elementary school child also entered the ESL class in the school with only simple vocabulary. The teacher at the time told us not to be in a hurry and not to push too hard even if we didn't speak English for about 9 months. The first 9 months were to be a time to let their ears ring, and after exactly 9 months, they started speaking English.
In no time at all, the kids were overtaking me.
I don't think there is any absolute minimum level of English required to move here. You will get used to it with time.

英会話は、日本の中学の時の英語でならう単語、１、５００ワードで成立します。

そんな、難しい英単語、文法を覚える必要はありません。

よく、日本人観光客の方々が使ってる英語、例えばホテルのチェックインとかで、
え？どうしてそんな複雑な英語使うの？と思います。

シンプルな英語で良いんですよ。シンプルな英文法で良いんですよ。

テレビの報道、映画、ドラマなどの番組、めちゃくちゃシンプルですよ。

複雑に考えないで。

発音は、こればかりかはアメリカ人の様な発音はほぼ不可能だと思って
ください。顎などの骨格がそもそも、その様になってない以上、無理です。

慣れて行きましょう。そしたら、少しづつ話せるようになると思います。

It is inconvenient in terms of procedures, etc., but I believe it will cover a reasonable amount of medical expenses abroad.

By the way, when I had HMSA before, my and my family's experience in Japan was
- I remember that when I visited a small clinic for flu, the prescription medicine was not covered because it was not used in the US.
- A family member was hospitalized ・ for surgery, and by bringing in the statement from the hospital to HMSA, it was covered accordingly. It took a reasonable amount of time to get the refund because of the time required for translation and screening. If you only have HMSA insurance, you will have to pay the full amount of the hospital charges except for hospitals affiliated with Blue Cross Blue Card Shield, and then you will be reimbursed after HMSA's review.

If you pay in cash overseas and file a claim with HMSA after you return to Hawaii, you will get most of it back. I got about 85% back.

I have HMSA health insurance, but

住所から現在の都ホテルのある場所ですね。ホテルが立つ前に何が有ったか思い出せないなあ。やはり2-3階建てのビルだったともいます。半地下になっていて札幌ラーメンが入っていたと思うのですが。オハヨーホテルと言うのはOhio Hotel の事です。あの辺りには小さなホテルが沢山有り、日本から来た人たちが住む場所が決まるまで泊まっていたりそこから仕事を探したりにぎやかだったようですよ。ちなみに向かい側に帝ホテルが有りそこから花屋さんの名前を取ったのかな？
