I have just married my American boyfriend, and now that we have our marriage certificate, we are going through the green card process.

So here is my question. I am on an F-1 VISA and have 12 college credits. I am going to be busy with VISA procedures, etc. I would like to destroy my I-20 and switch my status to I-797C if possible. The international office at the college does not recommend destroying the I-20 until I receive my green card. But I can switch to I-797C and stay. I was told.

Personally, I would like to change my status before I submit my green card paperwork and continue to take classes at the college for 12 credits or less.

Is there any risk there ？

I would appreciate it if you have had a similar experience or have any information.

If you can't work for the next few months due to the corona disaster.
Based on the fact that even if you could work, your salary might be cut in half.

I am considering withdrawing my 401K.

They don't charge the 10% fee normally charged for withdrawals due to Corona.
How long will that be ？

who has actually withdrawn without the 10% fee.
I would be happy to know.

Anyone familiar with 401Ks.
If you do, you should never withdraw.
If you have an opinion, it would be helpful if you could tell us why.

Please do.

I made a 401K withdrawal. It was deposited into my account within about 5 days of processing.
I am not a loan （ I also owe ） I made a withdrawal and usually have to pay a penalty ＆ fee of about 30% （ maybe more ） but this time they only took 10% due to hard living. Very reasonable. I am also off work all the time, but I did drop my 401K to pay my children's college expenses every 6 months. I think it is best to leave it as is, especially if you don't have to withdraw it, but I recommend it because the fees and penalties are cut drastically this time because of the special measures. The period is for the end of this year, but at this rate, there may be an extension. However, you need to check with your company's general manager. I read that it may not be possible depending on the company.

Hello.

I don't think they will charge 10% penalty fee in 2021.

I was going to withdraw in January this year because customer center told me that if I withdraw in 2020,

I will have to pay tax in the tax return procedure in 2021.

Then I was told that there would be a 10% penalty fee.

The law may change again when the president changes.

If anyone has withdrawn their 401k after 2021 and not been charged 10% penalty

I would be very interested to know.

Please do.
