まだ値札もついていて、レシートも持っています。母にあげようと持っていったら、気に入られなくて、なら返品しましょう、と思っています。買って３０日以内なら返品できる、とお店の人が言っていたのですが、アメリカに持ち込むと税金がかかってしまうのでしょうか?。アメリカで買ったものなんですが。

お土産は、合計金額が２０００ドル以上だと
税金がかかると思います。
なので、バッグ１個とかなら、全然問題ないでしょう。
レシートと、タグつきなら、返品（返金）又は、クレジットにしてもらえるでしょう。
お母様の気にいるバッグが見つかるといいですね。

米国在住者のお土産は$2,000ではなく$800までが免税ですが、レシートがあるなら購入時に米国内でTaxを払っていることが確認出来るので$800以上の額の品物でも大丈夫な筈です。二重課税は出来ないので。
