In my case,
I bought a Note 2014 from Hertz with about 2 years old, 21,000 miles on the rental car.
It was just under $16,000 including warranty, etc.

Maintenance ・ Repairs are basically done at a Nissan dealer.
Repairs large and small have come in so far. Oil changes, tire changes, batteries, of course, but also suspension parts replacement, paint baldness repair, etc. In about 8 years, I have spent $8,000.

Insurance is about $700 a year with StateFarm, and taxes and inspection are about $300, or $1,000 a year.

Finally, gasoline is $70 per month for a Town to Kaneohe commute.

So
initial investment $16,000 and running costs for the next 8 years （ not including gas ） are about the same.

I renewed my GC in December 2022.
I went to Japan in May of this year and did not receive my new card at that time, so I inquired and received a letter!
It stated that the letter would be valid for one year after the GC expired.

but it took about 30 minutes at immigration when I arrived in Hawaii.

I went to Japan during renewal. You said you don't have any kind of certificate, but do you have the I-797 （ extension letter ） sent by USCIS after renewal ？ with which you can travel outside the US? You must carry the original I-797 with you when you travel out of the country, along with your expired green card. Please note that photocopies are not acceptable.
