沈黙=敵害心みたいなところあるから、声かけるんじゃないかな。
私は、「不気味な東洋人」と思われるの嫌だから、挨拶してます。

How're you doin'?っていうのは、星座さんも言う通り、別にこっちの調子を聞いてるんじゃなくって、単純にHiと一緒なんです。だからこっちの健康状態なんかを聞きたくて言うわけじゃありませんよ。（日本人同士では殆どありえないケースだからね）こちらの人は、習慣で自然に待合室とかエレベーター待ちとか、不自然な沈黙を防ぐとか緊張感をほぐすために、知らない人にもHiとかHow are you doing？というのが、ぽっと出てしまうだけです。（別にそこに深い意味は有りません）だからそういったときは、何この人？！とか思ったり、不自然に返事もせず黙ったりしないで、普通にHiと返答すればいいのです。（そこから世間話してくる人もたまに居るけどね）その辺はアメリカで生活しているんですから、慣れていったほうがいいでしょうね。（苦笑）
