I am going to Korea.
Currently, a tourist visa is required to enter Korea for travel purposes.
To enter Korea, you need to submit a negative test certificate at least 2 days before departure. Also, it is required to retest within 3 days of entry and report the results.
I applied at the Korean consulate in Japan for a family visitor visa, which is a different type of visa from a tourist visa, and it was approved within a week or so while I was temporarily back in Japan. The tourist visa takes a little longer (about 2 weeks). I think the waiting time from application to approval is different from the Korean Consulate in Hawaii, but just for your information.

They cannot force you to renounce your nationality, so if you apply for it, they can make you one.

My acquaintance is in his 40s,
he is Japanese born in Hawaii but he still holds dual citizenship.
He has never been to Japan, so he renews it at the Honolulu Consulate.
