As usual, I'm still looking for cheap, Japan-bound airline tickets for my wife in April and me in July, and after missing the Black Friday sale, all airlines are still at their normal prices. I saw a pop-up ad on my phone this morning for HIS's "Hatsuyume Fair 2019," so I searched there, which is easier to operate on a PC, but this fair shows LAX-TYO \ \cH}$979, which is not direct, but much higher than the $851 on JAL's site, which I entered myself. It was much more expensive than the $851 I found on JAL's website.

When we were talking about fare IC cards such as Suica, someone mentioned before that there is a way to go through the ticket gate using Apple Pay on the iPhone, but now it is also possible to go through with Google Pay on Android phones.

Of course, the phone has to have a contactless device, but I was looking at T-Mobile's website to see if I could get a Galaxy A6 (Retail $ 400) from T-Mobile instead of my current phone company, Sprint. It seems that Google Pay can also go through the ticket gates as Suica. I only go to Japan about once a year, so I wondered what the benefit would be of having a cash card like Google Pay.

Cash card accounts such as mobile wallet do not earn any interest, but you have to deposit money. In contrast, a credit card is literally borrowing money to make purchases. And if you pay back the full amount when the monthly bill comes, there is no interest at all. Furthermore, credit cards are accepted everywhere, and since I have a Costco CITI VISA Card, I can even earn points. My credit card payments are small, but I can save enough to buy an iPad next spring.

It's kind of cool to shop with the recently popular mobile wallet, but that's all. In Japan, places that take Google Pay or Apple Pay always take credit cards too, so I'm not sure if it's a good idea to buy a new phone with Google Pay function.
