Morioka ・ Sansa Odori 2022" 3:00:09 and long


This is a recording of the summer festival "Sansa Odori" in Morioka, one of the major cities in Tohoku.

Watching the drumming and listening to the rhythm of the drums as they dance, you can imagine how it must have been during the Han or Qing Dynasty,

or the time of Genghis Khan who is said to have invaded Eastern Europe,

when countless columns of foot soldiers were marching across the inland desert. When they crossed the deserts of the interior, there was always a drum and fife band at the head of the column, leading the line of soldiers while dancing

as shown in this video. The word "kobu" is said to have been born at that time, and

as the characters suggest, "drums" and "dancers" were used to "inspire" the rest of the countless soldiers.
