Vivinavi New Yorkニューヨーク で日本人オーナーにお金を請求されました

こんにちは。
とても仲のいい友達が困っています。
以下は友達から預かった情報です。
数日前からあるびびなび で探したニューヨーク にある物件に滞在しておりましたが、予想以上に部屋が汚く、数日後に部屋を出たいとオーナーに申し出を行いました。
その際に、契約書にはサインしておらず、デポジットも支払いをしていなかったので日割りで、滞在日数分支払いをしたいとお願いしたところ、契約違反なので１ヶ月分の支払いを命じられました。払えないというと第三者が介入し、いずれにせよ請求するとのことでした。
その日に何度も請求の催促がきて、最終的に第三機関に委託し、請求を行うというメールの内容でした。
契約書にサインをしていない状態でのこちらの契約義務は生じないと私は考えております。
脅迫の手口を他の方にも使っているようなので、他の方ぜひ気をつけて頂きたいです。
また同じような被害に合われた方はいらっしゃいますか？
皆様のご意見お聞きしたく思います。
