パスポート紛失についての質問があり、掲載させていただきます。
現在、ロサンゼルス市内の学校へ留学中です。
厳密に申しますと、OPT(Optional Practical Training)が7月18日付けで終了となり、
現在はOPT終了後のグレース・ピリオド（60日間の滞在が許されている期間）となっております。
先日自身のパスポートの紛失に気が付き、再発行の手続きが必要となっております。
まだパスポートの失効手続きなどは行っておりませんが、来月からまた別コースでの再入学が決まっており、VISA再申請のために一時帰国をすることができない状況となっております。
また、12月でそのコースが終了となり、その後1月より別の大学でのコースがスタートするため、
その際には編入手続きのためにVISAが必要となります。
紛失してしまったパスポートとビザ共にコピーはあります。
在米日本大使館にパスポートの再発行に伺いたいのですが、同時に現在のビザも失効されるので、学校の書類が提出出来ないのでは…と考えております。
以上がわたしの現在の状況となり、質問を後述致します。
1. この場合、失効手続き、またVISAの再取得は米国滞在のために必須でしょうか。
2. もし必須でない場合、いかなる手続きが必要となるでしょうか。

一般的な情報はいろんな学校のサイトにまとめてありますが
（例えばhttps://isss.uoregon.edu/lost-passportvisa）
来月から入学する学校のInternational Student担当課に問い合わせるのが一番確実じゃないでしょうか。

OPT後にまたF1で居れるの？出してくれるの？
だったら学校をかえれば永久に入れるってことになるじゃんね
ほんとなのか、それとも自分で勝手に予定してる甘い考えなのか。
とりあえずグダグダ言ってないですぐにでも領事館行ってパスポート作ってもらうのが先でしょ

もう15年近く前の話なので、今もそうなのかは分かりませんが…
有効なI-20がある限り、滞在に問題はないはずです。
もちろんビザが無いとアメリカにF-1として入国が出来なくなるので、日本に一時帰国したいのなら、在日アメリカ大使館でビザの再発行手続きをしないといけなくなります。
ただ、それもビザがまたおりるかどうかは分かりませんので、リスクではありますね。
他の方も仰ってるように、次の学校のInt’l Student Officeに問い合わせることをおすすめします。

例えば、コミカレ卒業後OPTをして、その後四年制大学に行くっていうことはできたように記憶してます。
もしくは四年制大学→OPT→大学院とかですね。違ったかな？

この質問する以前にパスポートなきゃここに滞在出来ないでしょ。
大体、パスポート無しでどうやって日本に帰るのよ。飛行機乗せてくれないよ

～外国でパスポートを、なくした時はすぐに大使館へ～
パスポートは、出入国のときに必要なだけでなく、外国で身分を証明する確かな書類となります。
もし、外国でパスポートを紛失したり、盗難にあった場合はすぐに現地の日本大使館で手続きしましょう。
手続きとしては、紛失の届けと同時に新しいパスポートの申請をするか、帰国するための渡航書を申請するかの、２つの方法があります。

そうですね、パスポートの再発行は大前提ですね。

すみません、この部分見落としていました。
これはもう、パスポートを紛失した時点で効力が無くなったも同然なので、早くパスポートの再発行した方が良いと思います。
例えば、パスポートを更新した場合、新しいパスポートにビザは貼ってありませんよね？
古い方のパスポートの期限が切れたとしても、そこに貼ってあるビザの期限が来るまでビザ自体は有効なままだったはずです。
ですので、パスポートを更新したからと言って、同時にビザが失効するとは限りません。
ただ、ビザ自体が手元にあることが前提の話なので、トピ主さんの場合とは異なりますが…。

＞帰国するための渡航書を申請するかの、２つの方法があります。
これは前もって申請することは出来ませんし発行もしてくれません。通常、帰国当日になります

とりあえず必要なのはパスポートの取得のみだと思います。
nibblesさんのおっしゃるとおりパスポートが更新されることによってビザが失効することはありません。
もし更新後に前のパスポートが見つかったらそのビザは期限内であればまた使えます。
この場合、入国時に２つのパスポートを見せます。
見つからなければ再入国するためには新しいビザが必要です。
出入国がなければビザは必要ありません。
