このサイトで短期のルームシェアを探していまして、連絡をいただいたのですが、契約に入る際にデポジットを先に送れということだったのですが、これはLAでは一般的なことなのでしょうか？？？私は入居時に支払うスタイルにしていただきたいのですが・・・。私は日本にいるため見学に行くこともできないので、すごく不安です。詐欺とかの被害等聞いた方はいらっしゃいますか？どんな情報でも構いません。目に留まった方は、教えて下さい。お願いします。

はじめまして。
貸し手にとってみれば、あなたの為に部屋をホールドすることで、貸し手は借り手募集を停止するわけです。そしてもしあなたに当日ドタキャンされた場合貸主はどのような損失を受けるかはお解かりになると思います。
よって手付けのディポジットは通常不可欠だと信じます。もしディポジット無しの場合でしたらば部屋はあなたに対して貸すという確約を無しに、当日尋ねてまだ部屋が空いていたらば借ります、、といった具合でしょうね。
また酷なことを言いますが、遠方にいて当日まで部屋を確認できないというのはあなたの都合です。LAだからということではないのでは？どうぞ気を悪くなさらないでください。
ディポジットを送る際には短期間のこととはいってもきちんと文章でディポジットの扱い方も含め“契約”を交わすことです。

普通、デポジットは契約を交わす時に支払うと思います。
トピ主さんは、まだLAにいらっしゃらないんですね。それだったら、この話、危ないかもしれません。友達とか知人で信用が置ける相手ならともかく、住所や場所も実際には確認できない部屋を借りるのはリスキーかと。もし、トピ主さんがLAに信頼できるお友達がいらっしゃるようだったら、その人に見に行ってもらい、契約を代行＋デポジットを立替えてもらう方が安全だと思います。
シェアさせる側にしてみれば、口約束だけで待っていて逃げられると困るということなのかもしれませんが、LAに居る見ず知らずの相手に、契約書も無しに日本から送金するのは危険すぎるのでは？
私だったら、まずは安いホテルなどに滞在し、LAに着いてから部屋を探すようにすると思いますが。
