Gmailの最近の状況はいかがなものでしょうか？ 特に、使い勝手や、日本語のメッセージの読み書きについての安定度など、教えていただければありがたいのですが。
私は、Eメールアドレスの変更には慎重な方なので、出来れば、サインアップする前に、実際に利用されている方々の声を聞いてみたいと思っているのですが。よろしくお願いします。

もう長い間使ってますが使い勝手は普通にいいと思います。勿論MSOutlookとかに比べると不足しているfeatureとかありますけどね。たとえば「from」で sortしてみるとか。
日本語も文字化けした事は一回もありません。是非使ってみてください。

日本語が安定して動くことは魅力ですね。
妻が日本語のメール用に、試しにHotmailを使ってみたのですが、どうも、アドレスブック関連の表示が分かりにくくて使いづらいと言ってあきらめてしまい、最近よく耳にするGmailに関心を持った次第です。
