ノートパソコンを長期間使用しないのですが、
その間コンセントを外し、電源を切っておくべきでしょうか？

パソコン自体使い終わったら常に電源を切ることが賢明です。
また1っか月以上そのノートパソコンを使わない予定なら、
電源を切りACアダプターもコンセントから抜いておいた方が
若干電力消費の節約になります。

もしそのノートＰＣ、特に古い機種なら（古くなくても）
コンセントを抜いて充電をしない状態で長期放置すると放電してしまいバッテリーが完全に空になってしまう
そうなると、その後再充電はしなくなりバッテリーは完全に死にますから新しいバッテリーを購入する必要があります
コンセントは抜かないほうが賢明です。
ったく、バッテリーのしゅるいも知らんのにいい加減なこと言うなよ。ばい菌は相変わらず嘘ばっかの糞だな

私は、通常、デスクトップPCを使用しています。ノートブックPCも所有していますが、外出先で活用するのは、年に数回だけです。Noteさんと同じような状況かも知れません。
ノートブックPCの保管ですが、696さんが言うように、バッテリーの完全放電状態が続くようなことは避けなけねばなりません。その一方、ノートブックPCに通電し続けていたら、片付けができません。（電力消費は微微たるもの）
そこで私は、月に一度、ノートブックPCを取り出して、通電し、バッテリーを80パーセント充電します。この際、ノートブックPCを起動して、Windowsおよびウィルス対策プログラムをアップデートします。このようにしておけば、いざ使用する機会が訪れた時、電気的にも機械的にもソフトウェア面でも、スムーズに事が運びます。
なお、頻繁に使用するPCの管理方法は、上述とは異なります。

いやいや 久々に見ていますが、まだまだびびなびを見ていましたが、まだまだ健全ですね

長期間の時間にもよりますが 安全の観点からも（リチュウム電池の発火問題、又当地の電源の安定度の不安からの電圧変動、サージなどに対応するために電源アダプターをコンセントから抜く）が良いと思いますね
＃６の様に自分の知識だけひけらかすのは如何と思います
