This morning, I took a yoga class at the City of LA Senior Center and had lunch at the luncheon afterward.

About 80 ～ to 100 people gather at this center for lunch. Given the area, almost everyone is a U.S. citizen, and there are only a handful of people of Asian descent, including my wife and me. As a result, I hear nothing but English around me. There must be quite a few Latino residents here in the SF Valley as well, but for some reason, I don’t hear any Spanish.

I’m a 23-year-old woman, and an 82-year-old man living in Los Angeles who goes by the katakana name “Edokko.” Since 2009, I’ve been visiting Shikoku roughly once a year, covering about a quarter of the pilgrimage route each time. However, as I’ve entered my late elderly years and am starting to show some signs of dementia, my wife has firmly told me, “Don’t go to Shikoku anymore.”

Now that I can’t go to Shikoku anymore, I miss it even more and am agonizing over how much I want to walk the pilgrimage route. To make up for it, I watch the 23-year-old woman’s YouTube videos and imagine I’m walking through Shikoku myself. Please keep making interesting videos in the future...

Even on a walking pilgrimage in Shikoku, if the weather is clear, you’ll find yourself hiking through mountains with scenery this beautiful.

I’ve walked this section about twice myself.

Along the way, there are spots where the original pilgrimage path is blocked by a landslide, so you have to climb a ladder attached to the slope to take a detour. Well, it only takes about 15 minutes to get to the top, so it’s no big deal.

I slice the chicken breast lengthwise and stir-fry it in olive oil with wine vinegar, garlic, black pepper, and herbs. I also stir-fry broccoli, onions, and other vegetables along with them. I found the wine vinegar online, so I bought it right away. It turned out really delicious.
