パスポート等の申請のために領事館でのサービスを受ける際にいつも不思議に思うのですが、なぜアメリカでの滞在ステータスを聞くのでしょうか?
アメリカ市民をとりながら日本国籍を保持している人をチェックするためなのでしょうか? ビザもグリンカードも持っていない場合市民権を取りましたね?と聞かれると聞いたことがあります。
オーバーステイの方でビザが切れている方には領事館で働かれている方はなんというのでしょうか?

#21は皮肉で言っているのでしょう。そんなシステムはありえないと。
他のトピでも議論されていましたが、国籍を証明する「物」が戸籍なのか、パスポートなのか、住民票なのか、が議論の中心だったと理解しています。
自己申告をしない限り、戸籍は残ってしまい、戸籍があれば住民票が取れ、戸籍と住民票があればパスポートが取れてしまうので、どれか一つを管理しても仕方が無いのでしょうね。
どれにしても、領事館（外務省）が管理する事では無いと言うのが個人的な意見です。

アメリカにとって他国の国籍法なんて関係ないし、アメリカの国籍を取得したからって、わざわざ ”お知らせ”する義務なんてないじゃん。
アメリカさん、何かメリットがないと動かない国だよ。日本に情報を提供しても何も得しないよね。
