Just an example at this point, but for June, Walgreens PCR appointments don't appear on the calendar. I'm still looking into the possibility of using Insurance to get an appointment at one of the hospitals.

It is listed as 24h - 48 h, but I was told that results are usually available within 24 h.
The flight is in early June, departing on a Wednesday, so if we want to get the results quickly, the test will be on a Sunday.

I live in Northern California, I returned to Japan in April and came back this month, there are Dignity Health clinics all over the country that do PCR testing for international travelers, there was one in my city, so I made an appointment for the test, filled out a Japanese certificate on the spot, had it stamped by the testing laboratory and I was good to go. I filled out the Japanese certificate and had it stamped by the testing organization on the spot, and I was good to go. I had to submit my Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas membership card for health insurance. When I called to make the appointment, I was told that the insurance company would pay for it, but I was skeptical. I had the Japanese format for Dignity Health, so I didn't need to give them this one. ？

There are about three testing clinics in the San Francisco airport, and you can get tested at the airport. There should be others in other airports, but you need to check because the airport clinics may not allow you to use your insurance.

I don't know about drugstore testing, as I have never been there, but if it is covered by insurance and free, I would feel safer at a clinic than at CVS or other places.

Note that at the moment, the same negative proof is required to return to the U.S., so under the same conditions as now, the test must be done one day before departure from Japan.
