googleの翻訳サイト（フリー）を使うのは？ 100%じゃないけど、概要だけなら掴める。
全く英語が出来ない人になら、ありだと思う。
でも、概要をつかむだけね。

配偶者や仕事の都合などで、自分の意思以外で米国に来る必要があった場合なら、御気の毒だとは思いますが、そうでないなら、まったくもって同じ意見です。最低限の英語を覚える気もないのなら、なぜ米国？ お帰りになったほうがよろしいのでは？

だいたいハワイに住んでいる日本人はほとんど英語が全く分からないし
YES , NO , THANK YOU しか言えないでしょ。
何十年住んでいるとかハワイを知ったかぶって、若き頃のビジネスを自慢する人がいるけど
何一つ英語が話せないでよく言うよ！

私も、少し同感です。
ハワイに限らず、LAやSDなど日本人が多く住んでいる所だと、英語が苦手で小学生以下レベルの英語で何十年も生活出来ちゃている女性をよく見ます(男性は、付き合いがないので知らない)
夫が日本人なので家の中の生活には困らないし、子供が英語通訳してくれる。
職場は日本人ばかり。観るテレビは日本語放送だけ。これでは、覚えようとする機会失せますね
