Finally, we are leaving Aomori Station for Lake Towada.

Before that, I looked at Aomori station on Google map and found that the railroad line still extends to the end of the wharf, and I wonder if they used to load the whole train carriages on the line with a ferry like Toyamaru. In Sayuri Ishikawa's song,

The bus was close to full even though the weather was not so good. The bus had a strong sightseeing bus element, and the recorded in-bus announcement included explanations about Mount Hakkoda and Oirase Canyon in Towada-Hachimantai National Park, which caught the interest of the passengers. The Oirase valley is said to have the "best autumn foliage in Japan" when it is visited in autumn. Since it was summer at that time, I have been thinking that I would like to visit here again in the autumn foliage season.

In the bus announcement, the driver explained about "Mt. Hakkoda" as well as "Oirase Stream" and talked about the steepness of this mountain. Hakkouda reminds me of a movie starring Ken Takakura. I don't remember the details of the story, but a scene from the movie has stuck in my mind. It was a scene where a military unit in training deep in the mountains was stranded by a blizzard, and when the unit rushed to the rescue the next day, they found a dozen or so white pillars of snow still standing.

The bus arrived at Towadako at sunset and we suddenly entered a large tourist hotel we had reserved. This is the only large tourist hotel in this Tohoku ・ Hokkaido trip. Japanese tourist hotels ・ charge "how much per person per night" even if there are several people in a room, right? For those of us who have lived here for a long time, it seems quite expensive as a whole. The room we reserved was charged 28,000 yen per night per person including meals at the time. Even so, there was a large bathroom with a view of the outside, so we stayed there and took a walk around the lakeside the next day, leaving Towadako around 3:00 p.m. We took a bus to JR Hachinohe. We took a local bus to the center of the city.
