I took the Kinder exam this year and didn't make it to Punahou or Iolani. I was reading this topic and it made a little more sense.
My daughter started preparing for the Kinder exam right after she started 3 years old pre. I enrolled her in a tutoring program and sent her to an IQ tutoring program in Kahala. Even though I taught her at home with her, it took her a while to understand, and halfway through, she would throw a tantrum saying she wouldn't ！ do it ！ and that she didn't want to do it . She is an only child, so she is a little selfish, and that may have come out in the group sessions. I am in the exact same situation, I have been in Hawaii for 11 years, my husband is from Boston and has been in Hawaii for 13 years, and we took the Jr. Kinder test last year and were waitlisted.
The first announcement of waitlist was made in early April this year and it did not come back.
I was informed last September that there were only 3 spots available to fill up from 27 Jr. Kinder to 30 kinda nder, and I received an email to reconfirm that I would still be on waitlist even though I had 3 spots. I think that the children who were accepted to Punahou and Iolani Kinder will be added to the waitlist, so there is a big possibility that they will be added to the waitlist after the Punahou and Iolani results (both were last week) and 5/9 is the deadline for enrollment at both schools, but I think the total number of spots will be around 5 spots.
Hanahauwoo Hana Hau'oli is honest on their website that they give preference to those who are working at Legacy or Hana Hau'oli.
Also, the kids who passed Jr. Kinder this year were donating to Hana Hau'oli.
Also, every year, 2 or 3 kids who passed Hana Hau'oli Jr. kinder also apply for deffered admission to Punahouiolani while securing a spot in kinder, and if they don't make it, they enter Hana Hau'oli from kinder.
By the way, there are 37 people on waitlist since last year, and since there are only 3 spots, it will be tough without waitlist connections.
