That is correct. It can be disruptive for a new employee to challenge an existing rule. If the current rules are considered fair, it may be wise to follow them.

If you feel there is room for improvement, it may be beneficial to have a quiet discussion with your manager or to exchange ideas with other colleagues.

Thank you all for your answers. The tip is of course split with the kitchen staff at the time. It is not the sole responsibility of the server.
However, since only servers rotate between lunch and dinner shifts, the kitchen staff is not affected. I am a little uncomfortable with the service I give being passed on to other servers as I believe the service I give is included in the customer's tip, but I will try to come to terms with it somewhere.
