3月にこちらに赴任した者です。
DMVにて筆記試験を終え、Learning Permitは得ましたが、コロナによりDrive Testが再開されず、本免許取得の目途が立ちません。
このまま国際免許が切れる10月末を迎えてしまうと、運転ができなくなってしまいますが、同じような境遇の方、いらっしゃいませんか？
一度日本に帰国し、国際免許を再発行し、しのぐしかないでしょうか？
もし何かご存知の方がいらっしゃれば、教えて頂けると大変助かります。

同様の状況でした。私は日本で代理取得してもらいました。
国際免許と日本の免許は両方持ってないといけない、というルールだと思うのですが、最悪警察に停められても国際免許証を見せればなんとかなるだろうと腹を括って(?)、免許証と委任状を日本に送って実家の親に手続きしてもらいました。尚、委任状があれば親族でなくても大丈夫のようです。
免許証に登録されている住所の管轄エリア内で手続きする必要があるので、お気をつけください。

DMVでキャンセルになっていた分の予約は、幸いにも先日リスケされて、無事にテストを受けることができました。

どうもありがとうございます。私も色々と調べたところ、Sさんの仰った国際免許の代理申請にたどり着きました。
在留証明を取得する為に、領事館のアポの予約が取れずあくせくしてたら、
Drive Testの予約がDMVのサイトで先週末から取れる事に気付き、早速Redwood Cityの予約を入れました。
