Are you renewing your driver's license on a Visa or are you temporarily entering the country on ESTA ？

If the former, you will also need documents related to your status of stay. Other required documents can be found below. This is a starred ID.
The validity of the license will be adjusted to the expiration date of your stay.

On the other hand, Hawaii has （ at least as of November 2019, a ） Limited Purpose Driver 's License.

One point, I'm afraid I'm a bit of a leap of faith. I am afraid I am remembering this, but it is my case.
A few years ago, I was unable to renew my regular Hawaii license because I had no documents to submit while my residency papers were being reviewed by the USCIS.
So I asked about switching to Limited Purpose and I remember being told that I could not （ This is just my memory, sorry ） .

As an addendum, the license validity for drivers between the ages of 72 and 79 is
4 years （ 2 years ） for conditions that impair driving.

I will be staying in East, a 4 year renewal would be helpful. I booked it myself and came up with 4 required documents, but I will bring utilities and others. As for the documents, it was very complicated if you don't have a social security card. I also needed my US cell phone number when I made the reservation. （ I don't have one ）

If Zara has a printer, it would be a good idea to also print out and bring the Limited Purpose Driver's License information above.
I believe the cell phone number was used to send a text message from the reservation system. In any case, I think it is a good idea to bring as much documentation as you can with you, as I don't think you will be bothered to have any documents that might serve as proof of residence. I hope your renewal will be successful.

Just recently someone I know received a non-starred license for 8 years as a transfer from a Japanese license. He entered on an esta, owns real estate in Hawaii, and submitted the following documents: Japanese driver's license, driver's license background check (in Japanese and English, not sure of the name) to the consulate, I-94, electric bill, and a bank statement that was mailed to him.
I was surprised that someone who can only stay in Esta for 90 days can get a license valid for 8 years, while I, an E visa holder, can only get a license valid until the expiration of the stay permit on my I-94. The immigration lawyer told me that I could enter the U.S. and leave for even one day to a foreign country other than Canada before the 90th day and return again, and that there is no limit, so I could repeat that during the year ！. This was also a surprise.

I went there. I had collected various papers and brought them with me, but I had to go to the main office and ask for the Social Security number, because they don't have it here. I went to the main office and called them and they told me that it was no problem even if I didn't have a social security card. I am glad to hear that you were not able to renew this time, but it seems possible before you return home at the main office. Waianae, it is a bit far, but please go there to enjoy the scenery.

I think there are some cases that cannot be done if it is a satellite office, so
you may have to call before you go there to confirm if it is a special case.

I went to Wai'anae yesterday and was able to get an appointment right away and renew my driver's license without the star
It was valid for 4 years, all I needed was my passport and Hawaii license, everyone was very unfriendly and I had a bad experience, if you have the star you have to go to the social security office and go through the process to get it replaced. I am glad I was able to renew before it expired, the west is unique, there were homeless people all along the overseas.

I would say that Waianae has its own culture, or it may be cold if you are new to someone from somewhere else. Maybe I got a sense of that. I think there are many people who are nice once you get to know them. Also, I think the homeless camps reflect the current situation in Hawaii.
Some people come here to be homeless on a one-way ticket from the mainland, others are homeless because they don't have a job locally, etc.
I think the circumstances are different.
