Yes, I sometimes go to the Korean Galleria Market on the corner of Reseda Blvd. and Devonshire St. and the Daiso on Plummer St. and Shirley Ave. If you see a late-aged, moldy-faced geezer, say hello. I only go there about once a month.

For regular food I go to Super King Market near Daiso, Costco near Tampa Ave. and the train tracks, and Walmart at Porter Ranch a bit further away.

I have not heard that rumor. There are so few Japanese ・ people of Japanese descent in the valley that I don't think a Japanese food store would last more than a month. There are sushi and ramen shops on every block with Korean owners and Latino chefs, but none of us Japanese from Japan go there. Even UNIQLO, which is popular among the locals, made a market research mistake and opened a store in Northridge Mall, which is now a thing of the past, but it was completely deserted and they left early. If I had asked my wife first, I would not have wasted my money.

Nearby, say 20 minutes drive, there is

a Daiso store, but it has few products and the shelves are empty.

It doesn't look good to have a lot of the same products, but slightly larger, to fill the shelves.

There are so few people working there that it seems they can't get the products on the shelves in time.

We've had a bad corona pandemic in China recently, so many areas are on lockdown and factories are closing.
It hasn't been on the news out west though.

If we build a factory in Mexico to make what we are making in China,
it would be convenient because we are connected by land.

If a factory is built in Mexico and employment is provided to Mexicans and people from Central and South America,

Certainly such a theory would hold true if one only looked at the map, but in reality there have been such moves in the past, including by Japanese manufacturers.

About 30 years ago, the now-defunct Sanyo Electric Co. started production of color TVs and small air conditioners by building a factory on the other side of the border. But then China emerged as the "world's factory" and the border business seems to have disappeared.

Now, I wonder what direction the world will take when this pandemic is completely over.

Even though China is rising and we have our eyes on them,
if we were making it in China, what we are doing and what we do don't mesh.
We need to think about getting out of China. Building a wall on the border will not reduce illegal immigration.
Now that $1.00 store items are now 25 cents on the dollar.

If it's not profitable to build it in the U.S. because of labor costs, etc.,
can't we come up with the idea of building it in Mexico?
