In our valley, there is a line coming into the valley from the big rail yard near Union Station through the LA Zoo and the mountain-free area around 5th, but the line splits into two immediately after entering. One line heads straight north, and the other crosses the valley and goes toward Simi Valley. The Tampa Ave. crossing near Northridge Costco is particularly busy with MetroLink and Amtrak trains. Freight trains used to pass by there often, but I have noticed that I rarely see them these days. This line heads toward Ventura and Santa Barbara on the Coast Line, but I wonder if the demand for freight has recently disappeared. When I hear the sound of the steam whistle in the distance at night, I feel a kind of sadness, or perhaps it induces a feeling of travel, which is a unique feeling.

It has nothing to do with railroads, but the song "Ventura Highway" from America, not "Hear the steam whistle in the distance" by Alice, comes to my mind.

It looks like April 1 next year. The current Japanese government plan is to download a medical form from the net before the trip, take a corona test accordingly, and send back proof of a negative result.

Furthermore, when they arrive in Japan, they will be tested again at the airfield in the same way they have been doing, and if it is negative again, they will be released and allowed to enter Japan, but they will have to report their health status every day for the next 14 days via a smartphone app or something during the trip.

I doubt that you will keep this 14-day report. And I doubt if all of you will be able to have smartphones that can communicate in Japan. But I'm glad to know the date of the ban to some extent. I would like to go after GW in May.
