Is Mr. Baiginman a U.S. citizen? ？
There seems to be no prospect of accepting U.S. citizens who do not have a Japanese passport for a short visit unless there is a special reason to do so.
The consulate staff told us that the Japanese side has requested strict restrictions for the time being, regardless of the fact that the emergency declaration has been lifted. If you are coming to Japan on a long-stay visa for nursing care or other reasons, you should apply for a certificate of eligibility in Japan and then apply at the consulate here.

U.S. Citizen,

Yes, I am a U.S. citizen and cannot go to Japan right now. The recent coronal rebound in Japan has been so severe that it seems unlikely that Japan will open for the time being. I think it may extend until this fall if not sooner.

That said, I don't want to get a "long-stay visa" or anything like that.

As I wrote in #2383, I tried to complete the Global Entry process, but at the final step, the process could not be completed because the information I entered was "incorrect" or something.

I found a box to report any questions about what went wrong, so I filled it out and sent it in. 2 weeks later I finally got a reply, but it was very typical and I have no idea what went wrong.

Maybe, but when I first applied for US Passport when I became a citizen, I was only supposed to put my birth country and birth city, but in this G/E application, there are three places: birth country, birth state, and birth city. I entered the name of the ward, but this may not have matched the information on US Passport.

So now I will enter "Japan", "Tokyo", "Tokyo" in my case. If there are any citizens in this area who already have a G/E and still remember this, please let me know.

Can I leave the state of birth blank?

If not, but on the passport application, if you were born in the U.S., you write State - City, and if you were born abroad, you write Country - City.
