The following information is available on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs page.

After midnight, October 11, 2022 （ Japan time ） all returnees ・ except those who entered Japan ・ with symptoms of suspected infection with the new coronavirus, will not be inspected upon entry in principle, and will not be asked to wait at home or lodging after entering Japan. In principle, no inspection will be conducted at the time of entry, and no waiting at home or accommodation after entry, no follow-up during the waiting period, and no use of public transportation, etc. will be required. However, all returnees ・ shall be required to submit either a certificate of vaccination （ three times ） or a negative certificate of a test taken within 72 hours prior to departure from the country with a vaccine on the International Health Organization （ WHO ） Emergency Use List.

It seems that the recent PCR test certificates and monitoring of accommodation after entry into Japan will no longer be required for the unlimited entry into Japan starting October 11, 2022. However, only the vaccination certificate will remain.

Cell Phone Calls in Japan

The last time I went to Japan was in July 2019 and at that time I took my Sprint cell phone directly to Japan and used it. However, the phone number is still the same as the US number, so the other party's call would be made to the US number and the international call charges in Japan were very high and I refused to reply to the call. More than three years have passed since then, and I guess the cell phone situation in Japan has changed a lot. I have switched from Sprint to T-Mobile, and I think I will be calling under T-Mobile's conditions when I go to Japan next time, but if anyone has any information on how they were able to make calls/data communication safely with their cell phone or had any trouble, even if it is from another company, please let me know. If you have any information, please let me know.

JAL seems to provide information on how to make phone calls, including SIM cards, for foreign tourists coming to Japan.

If I can send a text message, I use text message for calls from the other party.
When my acquaintance goes to Japan, he stops mail delivery until he comes back
If he receives a package or something, I keep it and contact him by message.
