Permanent residents of the U.S. should be able to return to the U.S. without any problem even if they have not been vaccinated.
Currently, Japanese tourists are required to present ① a letter of commitment ② Corona negative certificate ③ proof of vaccination at check-in at Japanese airports, but ③ proof of vaccination is not required for US citizens ・ US permanent residents.
I have been vaccinated 3 times, and when I checked in for my flight to Haneda → jHonolulu a few weeks ago, I was recognized as a permanent resident by showing my green card and was not asked to show proof of vaccination.
After arriving at Honolulu airport, no corona related documents or proofs were presented.
