If you work less than 40 hours per week or less than WBA, you should always file because unemployment insurance will be paid.

If your only purpose is to keep your UI account active, you should continue filing weekly even if you work more than 40 hours per week or WBA. The UI office system will display "Disqualified" immediately without waiting for a labor report from the employer, but you can keep your UI account active.

But there is a concern. The unemployment insurance help team told me that in the first half of last year there were many cases where UI accounts were automatically suspended if they were not touched for several months, but now they are not seeing any such cases at all. I certainly have not seen any such cases recently. I think that maybe the UI system has been upgraded and no longer stops automatically. But only the UI office can tell if that is true.

Back on topic, filing weekly may be a hassle, but I think it would be safer in the long run to continue filing weekly until Hawaii reopens in earnest and the employer makes a final decision that there will be no suspension or dissolution.

Just for the record.

In past topics （ last spring ）, those who made the mistake of entering the status of "fully terminated" or "temporarily terminated" on the Initial Application immediately contacted the UI Office within 3 months.

The response from the UI Office at that time was one of the following.
● Direct correction
● Reactivate a Claim application to change status

Since it is rare to change status after one year, it is possible that there is no one who would share this on this topic. Also, with the upgrade of the UI system, the advice from the call center has changed a little compared to last year.

The safest course of action is to check with the call center for the latest method.

I am calling the unemployment insurance office to let you know that my call has been connected. I am considering a temporary return to Japan after mid-April. I have already issued my airline ticket, so I contacted the unemployment insurance office to that effect.
After about 25 calls, I got through, and from there I was put on hold for about 40 minutes with music playing, then I was connected to a person in charge.

At that time, I told them that I needed to return to Japan for the I-94 and I told them why and for how long.
"You can't apply when you are not in Hawaii, and you can apply when you come back and are ready to apply.
"Even so, there are some people who have not been able to get it, so I am contacting them just in case. Don't you need to send an email too ？?" to which I replied
"I'll make a note of it anyway, so you don't need to email me either." He said.

Still somewhat incredulous, I am thinking of sending an email with a copy of my airline ticket and passport as an attachment, just in case.

It seems true that different staff members say different things.

In a past Topix share, someone gave me an advice that I couldn't believe my ears, "You can file weekly from Japan. （ Filing from Japan comes with a Red Flag and will not be paid until you explain it to the UI office and they agree ）.

Also, some people have had the UI office call or email them and ask why when they re-file after a long gap.

One case that was particularly suspicious to me was a case that was filed long after the Corona lockdown. The UI office was unable to determine exactly whether they had returned to Hawaii from out of state and illegally filed for their out-of-state stay, or whether they just found out later how to apply for unemployment insurance and filed late and paid （ The federal government has been instructed to investigate informally. I think ） .

Now that it's been a year since the Corona lockdown, there are not many such opaque filings, so I guess there are fewer cases where things get complicated.

I think you don't have to send me copies of your airline tickets and passport, since you seem to have kept them in your UI account records. If you are really concerned, try sending them.

I see that some people note at the call center and some don't. I am having a hard time with this. I will share this with the Unemployment Insurance Help Team. I think it would be okay if you save your passport and a copy of your round trip airline ticket so that when you get back to Hawaii, if you don't expect to hear from the UI office, you can always give them a copy.

[Weekly filing after returning to Hawaii from out of state]

File a Claim Certification on a weekly basis, not a daily basis.

For one week, you will start with the week in which you can answer "YES" to the question "Are you available for work?" in the State of Hawaii.

If your schedule is to take the PCR test in Japan and arrive in Hawaii on a Saturday, it will be easier to file for a week starting the following Sunday.

It took about less than 3 weeks.
