いっつもきになっているんですけど、ＣＭで１−３１０−モーテルっとか宣伝してるじゃないですか？
それみて、でもこれじゃー電話番号わかんなにのに・・って思うんですよ。
結構そういうのありますよね？知人に聞いたら、モーテルの例だとMOTELの「Ｍ」と字が書いてある電話機の数字（数字のところに文字が３つぐらい書いてある）これをさしているというんですよ。ほんとかな？
そうすれば、だいたいの電話番号が見ている人にわかるんだ！と言います。
ああいった、番号って何番をさしているのでしょう？自分で調べてね？ってことなのかなぁ？？

本当ですよ､全ての電話機にアルファベットがついているので直ぐわかると思います｡
例えば､MLBのエンゼルスのチケットなら､(確か)最後がHALOですので4256です｡

私もそれ昔、悩んだことある。
何回もひとつの文字に対して、それになるまで何回も押して、
つながんないじゃんとか思ってた。
案外、簡単だよね。

私もhitomiさんと同じように思った(笑)。携帯電話で文字を表示する感覚で。
でもＣＭで番号とアルファベットと両方言っているものがあり、もしや！と思ってその場で電話のボタンを急いで見て、納得しました(笑)。

日本だと、はとやホテルは４１２６で『良い風呂』みたいな語呂合わせがありますが、こっちにはありません。逆にアルファベットを数字に置き換える方法はポピュラーです。
でも、数字で知りたい！って時は不便ですね。近くに電話がないと。
ただ、最初の質問にあったような、
1-310-motelは市外局番（３１０）の後に５文字しかないので、それは変ですね。1-800-pqcbellのように7文字が普通です。
どの電話器にもアルファベットは記されているので、慣れれば日本の語呂合わせよりもさらに覚えやすいです。
