Pickleball's reasons are that "tennis is becoming less popular" and "I don't see anyone using the tennis courts". However, the courts at Ala Moana Beach Park are the busiest tennis courts in Honolulu. There is no reason why you would not see people using the courts, unless it is raining or there is a storm.
Pickleball is very popular and I enjoy playing pickleball myself. New pickleball courts are popping up in Kakaako, Manoa, Hawaii Kai, and Kehi, which is great.
