I am a U.S. citizen and was not asked for proof of vaccination both when leaving and entering the country.
Non citizens were only asked for an affidavit.

Currently, the mandatory traveler vaccination rule is in effect until April 10.

Also, the U.S. Senate has passed a bill to end mandatory traveler vaccination.

Is the vaccine certificate relevant when entering or leaving the country?
I thought it was required for flight check-in.


I hope this will change on April 10, when it will be possible to enter the country without the vaccine.

US Entry ：
The Transportation Security Administration （ TSA ） is requesting that airlines flying into the US confirm vaccination of passengers who are not
US citizens ・ green card holders.
Therefore, airlines are required to verify citizenship ・ and proof of vaccination at check-in.

Departure from the U.S. ：
The U.S. side does not care about anything. However, at this stage, the Japanese government requires proof of vaccination, so
airlines may check your Visit Japan Web registration when you check in at the airport.

Japan is going to lower the pathogen classification of Corona in May, but the US seems to be on track to end the national emergency declaration with 5/11, so they may decide to allow travel without the vaccine there. So I think 4/10 and 5/11 are a good guess.
