In the U.S., women don't have many housewives because many of them are very proud. Even if they stay at home, they babysit, teach something at home, or ､ do some work at home. It is unique to the Japanese to have the husband earn money and devote himself to the family. I think the number of full-time housewives is decreasing in Japan nowadays.

My children attend a Bel Air elementary school （ just over 70% white, 80% ） when combined with a mix of whites, but 80% ～ 90% of the mothers in the class are housewives. The school is small, with a small class size, but those who work there are lawyers, doctors, story writers for a TV station, models, actresses, and others who own their own companies, and nannies take them to and from school. But I can see their motherly faces when they enthusiastically participate in school events. As a side note, most of the nannies drive BMWs. One of the nannies I spoke to told me that it is common around here for nannies to be given BMWs. They don't want their children to be picked up and dropped off in cheap cars.

When it came time to decide who the class mothers would be, the housewives raised their hands in unison. I thought they didn't want to be class mothers because it was too much trouble, but there were many who wanted to be class mothers, and as a result, eight people became class mothers.
