私は6月からサンタモニカにきた日本人留学生なのですが、ホストファミリーを変更するか迷っています。
私のホストファミリーは82歳のおばあさんの1人暮らしで耳が聞こえ遠く上手くコミュニケーションがとれません。 自分も声は大きい方ではないので余計に聞こえにくいのかなとも思います。
ここからは愚痴みたいになるのですが… まずこっちに向いていないとすぐ前にいて話しかけても聞こえません(^◇^;) あとは、上の階の人が異常にうるさく、日中だろうが夜中だろうがものすごい物音がします。 他にはマザーは朝起きるのも遅く、夜寝るのは早いのでご飯はいつもひとりで食べることになり、日中マザーは彼女の部屋にずっといるので業務的な内容以外で話すことがありません。バスの使い方など、色々と聞きましたが全てわからないと返ってきます。風邪を引いてティッシュやトイレットペーパーを使っていると、自分で買ってこいとだけいって自分の心配どころかストックのペーパーも出してくれません。
自分としてはク暮らすだけなら問題ないのですが、せっかくお金を払ってホストファミリーの家にきているのにこれでは寮と変わりなく、もったいないなと考えてるいます。
アドバイスをいただければ嬉しいです。

最後まで面倒を見たげるとファミリーが集まって弁護士が遺言書を開くと何かいいことが書き込んであるかもね。

ホストファミリーと言っても、殆どの人達は収入目的でお部屋を貸しているので、多分Ｔｏｍｏさんが期待しているようなホストファミリーとめぐり合えるかどうかは掛けのようなものだと思います。
もし、自分でお部屋だけを借りるより割高な料金を払っているのでしたら、自分で部屋を借りる方が良いかも知れません。
それでも、どんな人の所に住むことになるのかは一種の賭けですから、（中には悪質な人もいるようですし）自己責任で行動するしかないですね。

身内は誰一人訪ねてこないので
心配になって隣の人が最後まで面倒を見てあげて
亡くなったとき遺言書に全財産をその人に譲る、と書かれてた。
ミュージシャンのプリンスが亡くなってから７００人の身内が出てきたらしい。
