Vivinavi Los Angeles日本人との結婚、離婚のアメリカで届出しますか?

日本人と日本で結婚して仕事でアメリカに来ましたが、何も届けもせずにずっときました。
日本で元旦那が離婚届けを役所に提出して数ヶ月経ちますが、アメリカには何も届けていませんがこれで良いのでしょうか。
元旦那はアメリカに来た時に届けてないので、離婚してもそれを届ける必要は無いと言っていますが、
詳しい方いらっしゃいましたらアドバイスをお願いします。
このままでもＳＳのベネフィットは年齢が来たら申請すれば配偶者として貰えるのでしょうか。
