I am thinking of renting an office in Torrance, and I heard that Palos Verdes is a very nice place, a little higher up the hill from Torrance. I have been living in Japan for about 20 years, including the period of raising my children, and I have never felt any inconvenience.

From a local employee, I started my own business and have now moved to PV and lived there for over 5 years.
The school district is truly amazing. The educational standards are among the highest in the US. Some people say it's inconvenient, but
everything is within a 30 minute drive to places like Torrance, which has a large Japanese population.
I have never felt inconvenienced at all.
The environment is quiet and the crime rate is extremely low compared to other areas.
The neighbors are also financially well-off, so the people are very calm.
The climate is mountainous, so the temperature is a little cooler, but in the summer it is cool and really comfortable. PV is also very large and only in some places. Landslide areas are already not rentable, so don't worry. No problem at all. We hope you have a good life in the US.

If you have a family, safety and school district will be a priority, so Paloyama would be the best choice if you want to live in Los Angeles.
If you avoid landslide areas and areas where houses stand on cliffs, you should be fine.

Palos Verdes Estates has its own police department and is very safe, while Rancho Palos Verdes is under the jurisdiction of the LA County Police Department and is slow to respond, so there are a lot of gated residents. Rancho is the same near the ocean, but either way, the scenery and air are great.

But I was surprised at first, when I drove a little bit, to see oil tanks lined up like in the middle east, depending on the direction of the highway. You could call the police or fire department directly and ask them. The neighboring city of Redondo Beach also seems to be nice with an independent school district and police department.
