ロサンゼルスへ来て数ヶ月。
私の学校でもどこでも周りの日本人ほとんどがメキシコ人を《メキ》とか《メッキー》と呼びますが、これは普通の呼び方なのですか?なんだか小バカにした呼び方に感じます。
住んでいるのはヴァーモント×オリンピックですが "あの辺はメキだらけで汚いでしょう?" とか "メキってさー・・・だよ" "メキのくせに・・・だよね〜" という事をよく聞きますが何故バカにするのですか?
日本にいる時にパリスがよく行っていたと噂で聞いたクラヴ"ホワイトロータス"に行きたいとクラヴ通の友人に言ったら "あそこはもうダメ。とっくに終わってる。メキが多くなってみんないかなくなった"
何故なのですか?ロサンゼルスでメキシコ人はバカにされているのですか?確かにバス乗っていてもあまりこぎれいなメキシコ人はいませんが(服装がペンキだらけだったり、歯がなかったり、お金を無心されたり)何かほかに理由があるのですか?

北米には米国の南にメキシコ、ベリーズ、グァテマラ、オンヂュラス、エルサルバドール、ニカラグア、他などと諸国が存在して居るのは学校でも習ったはずです。 ＬＡで見かけたこれらの国々に人達を全部ひっくるめてメキシコ人って言ってませんか？ 私たちがチーノ（中国人）って呼ばれるのと同じですな。 見た目では分からないのですからラティーノと呼びましょうよ。 彼らの多くは故郷に送金するために凄い難儀をして不法に越境してきています。 お金が無いので貧相な服装が多いですし、故郷の文化程度が未だ低いために先進国での常識についていけてない部分があります。 それが眉を顰めさせるのでしょうが親掛かりできれいな格好が出来てる人種と基本的な部分ではなんら変りはないのです。 むしろガッツでは彼らの方がはるかに上でしょう。ちなみにわが社では初任賃金は日本人より彼らに２０％ほど高く払います。 ９９％の確率で日本人よりラティーノのほうが良く働くからです。 これは当社のみならず建築業界の常識です。 アジア人は、少なくとも日本人は「謙遜」を弁えましょう。
