I use Google FI, which allows calls and WIFI in 200 countries with a US SIM

I have never tried it, but I believe the Skype number is for calls only and not for SMS. I checked the Microsoft article; SMS authentication is a headache for those living abroad. Furthermore, Japanese SMS authentication is usually set up assuming a valid cell phone number in Japan, so I think it may be impossible from this point of view. （ Personal Opinion ）

There is no limit to stay in Japan because permanent residents are Japanese nationals. lol
