I had a $250,000 annual income when I lived in NY and never felt like a high income earner.
Now I've lived in Hawaii for 10 years and only make $150,000 a year, but it's a lot easier there.

What I think makes the difference is that property taxes and HOAs are incredibly cheap in Hawaii.

Ten years ago in NY, we paid $25,000/year in property taxes and $2,400/month in HOA fees (not including electricity, gas, and telecom ）.
Monthly payment of approximately $4,500

Currently in Hawaii, annual property tax of $1,200 and HOA Fee of $1,400 per month(Electricity、Gas、Communications included ）.
Monthly payment of $1,500

Taxes and HOA can go up but not down, so this is a big difference.

New Jersey and Massachusetts seem to be in the same building
I used to live in NJ and the cost of living was definitely cheaper.

Property Taxes are not as high as in some places where school taxes are tens of thousands of dollars at the school district level,
Gasoline was cheaper, groceries (except luxury items ） Clothing and shoes are tax free and NJ was easy to live in.
NJ has different sales tax rates for different counties, so I sometimes went to the city with the lowest sales tax to buy electrical appliances.

NYC has a city tax, so many people lived in NJ and commuted to NYC.

The Consulate of San Francisco has jurisdiction over Nevada.
Last year it was not Corona related, but every year the people at the San Francisco Consulate
would travel to Las Vegas to provide processing services.
I thought that Vegas residents had to be in San Francisco, but
maybe the consulate in LA can do it ？
