Today, one of the LA Fitness classes for the elderly, which is like an aerobics class in Japan, had its Christmas party at the Outback Steakhouse a few doors down.

Most of the participants were old white women. I was the only Japanese immigrant. They talk a lot. I join in when there is some commonality in topics, but most of the time, they are the only ones who talk.

This class is arranged with melodies of popular songs from the 50's, 60's, and 70's. Most of the songs are ones I used to listen to myself, so it's easy to get along with and my body moves well. It is easy to ride and moves well.

I joined that tour because I never had a chance to visit Boston, Massachusetts. Boston is famous for its museums and art galleries, but the bus also went to Prymouth, where the first European immigrants to the Americas are believed to have landed. I forgot in my recent blur, but my full option Prius V had a Driving Guide Display that showed a map.

When this was turned on, a map would be displayed and a female voice would tell me which way to turn when I voice-entered the name of my destination.

I rarely leave the SF Valley these days, so I never used the Driving Guide Display.

It's a model with all the options, so it's a shame not to use it.

Oh, I don't want to get old.

For those of you who do not know, let me explain "Manzana Pilgrimage". The place name Manzana is located in the desert just north of Los Angeles, Rt. 5 - Rt. 14 - Rt. 395 by car.

In the old days, during World War II, the U.S. government used military force to forcibly segregate and incarcerate Japanese Americans throughout the U.S. in specific locations on "suspicion" that Japanese and other Japanese Americans in the U.S. were possible spies for the enemy, Japan.

What a mess, what to write.......

For what it's worth, in WWII, the enemy of the U.S. should have been not only Japan but also Nazi Germany, which was a powerful enemy, but for some reason only Japanese Americans living in the U.S. were forcibly segregated/incarcerated.

The U.S. government of the time blatantly deprived some U.S. citizens of their freedom. It was an act of disregard for the fundamental principles of democracy by the US government of the time.

Because of this history, we, the yellow race, can now proudly walk the streets of America. We can even choose our own next president.

That is also why I went on a pilgrimage to the land of Manzana, far away from here.

I read somewhere long ago that German soldiers were hesitant to kill because they looked like them, but the Japanese were not so difficult because they did not look like them.
The forced segregation of Germans was also difficult because it was hard to judge from a quick look if they were of Anglo-Saxon descent, and there were so many immigrants that they were not non-Japanese.

I didn't know its exact name but I knew about the 442nd Infantry Regiment, an all Japanese American regiment, before I moved to America. When I was a high school student in Japan, there were many American movies on TV, especially "Combat" and "Gallant Men" that my father and I were crazy about.

One of the stories was about a unit of only Japanese Americans who, in the middle of the night, rushed into the German army with only their bare hands and no weapons to fire, and rescued an American soldier who was being held captive. Perhaps this was the "442nd Infantry Regiment".

On the first day of this Shikoku pilgrimage, we got off the train at JR Bando Station around 10:30 a.m. and started walking from the first temple, Ryozenji, 800 meters away.

We will walk about 16 km to No.1 Reizanji Temple, No.2 Gokurakuji Temple, No.3 Kinsenji Temple, No.4 Dainichi Temple, No.5 Jizoji Temple, and No.6 Anrakuji Temple. At each temple, you will strike the bell if there is one, offer incense and candles in the main hall ・ and in the Daishi Hall, read sutras including Hannya Shingyo, and finally pay for a red seal ・ at the sutra office (500 yen). This process is repeated at each temple, so it would be around 4:00 pm when we arrive at Anrakuji Temple No. 6. That night, you will stay at the Anrakuji temple's Shukubo (temple-operated dormitories).
