Vivinavi Los Angeles車の屋根にベッドを載せて走るのはOKでしょうか?

たまに普通のセダンタイプの車の屋根にベッドをひもでくくりつけて、Freewayや下道などを走行している姿を見ますが、あれは合法なのでしょうか?
おまわりさんにみつかると交通違反のチケットなどもらうことになるのでしょうか?
私も今度引越しがあるのですが、ただベッド以外は大きなものはないのでトラックなどを借りずに、自分のセダン車（シビック）で運べたらと思っています。
特に屋根に積載用の器具などは取り付けていないまっさらな屋根になります。
もしどなたか詳しい方がいましたら教えてください。お願いいたします。
