Sorry, I don't know how to answer mango-san,

I also had a File an Initial Claim question, so I had to post it here. Please forgive my rudeness.


I received an email asking me to File an Initial Claim after July 4, so I filed my Initial Claim today, July 6.

Later, I found out that I did not get the screen to select whether to continue PEUC or Iinitial Claim.

Usually it seems to come up. （ I didn't know about it, so I just Submitted and closed it. ）


I then received an email with Confirmation number.

I didn't even make a selection, and it seems that I selected Iinitial Claim on my own, even though I intended to select PEUC continuation.


At the bottom of the Inquiry screen, in red, it says "YOUR CLAIM WILL EXPIRE ON 07/03/2022 AND YOUR ELIGIBILITY FOR BENEFITS STILL NEEDS TO BE DETERMINED." .


The period is "Claim 07/04/2021 - 07/03/2022".

I called the call center about 100 times in a hurry because I want to continue PEUC, but the call is not connected.

It's been a long time since I called the call center, but I feel like it's harder to get through than before.

Now I am just at a loss.

In the meantime, I have sent out an email, and Language Services has sent it out in Japanese.


The same thing seemed to have happened in March, but after that, I wonder how those who, like me, did not get the screen to select the file and it was filed by itself, were handled after that ？

Since you are not completely laid off but have been registered at work for a long time, you can enter the date of first attendance （ before becoming Furlough ） and the last day worked （ and the last day of the three months worked at a time ）.

① If you have not worked since you first applied for unemployment insurance, you did not have to file a File an Initial Claim. Please refer to #327 and #337 in the "PEUC September Extension Program （ Third PEUC ）" Topic for instructions on how to correct this.

② If you have worked on a short-time, part-time, on-call, or fixed-term contract since you first applied for unemployment insurance, you must File an Initial Claim. You can just wait and see.

In any case, the PEUC program has a $25 difference rule, so you can probably keep your current WBA. For more information, please follow and read the "PEUC September Extension Program （ PEUC 3rd ）" topic from around March 18.

Hi, I was thinking of applying on 7/4 with an INITIAL claim too. I was going to apply on 7/4 with an INITIAL CLAIM, but then I decided that it would be OK to continue as usual until the week ending 7/3.

I did not explain well enough. The first day of work is the date of hire. It is the day I first joined that office. It is not the first day of work when you have worked there for four months.

In the PEUC extension from March to June, there was a curious case （ of an automatic extension despite having labor income due to shorter hours, etc. ） but it was rare. If you are hoping for a slight chance of an automatic extension, try waiting one week after the Benefit Year End expiration date; if you do not get an automatic extension after one week, it is time to file an Initial Claim.

Some of the team members are unemployed Japanese tourist business related jobs, and they have been there for the Japanese community who have worked in the tourism industry and lost their jobs. To reconfirm, is it correct to say "Started （ ＝ First day of work ） → Temporary dismissal → 3 months of work → Temporary dismissal again → Full dismissal" ？ If yes, then Started Day is the day you started working at that place and Last Worked Day is the last day of the 3-month work period.

Start Day&Last Day Worked. My case is

20 ？ ？ May 1, 20 （ I joined ）
March 16, 2020 （ I worked this day and furlogh last)
March 1, 2021 （ I went back to work at shorter hours ）
And I am still working under the same circumstances and receiving partialunemployment.
Start Day is when ？ Last Day Worked is now working and cannot proceed after that if blanked.

By the way, it is still Expired on June 30. Please help me.

Thank you for your first post and message. I hope you will continue to share with those close to you the kindness that many of you have shared information with us on the numerous unemployment insurance topics.

I know it has been a difficult year with the Corona disaster, adding not only the stress of social distance and unemployment stress, but also the stress of the unemployment insurance process, which is not well maintained. And I think the hardest of all was for the Essential Workers who were forced to come to work at a time when they did not have such generous benefits as unemployment insurance and were not sure what Corona was or how to deal with it.

I can only hope that by next year all the unemployment insurance topics will be gone and all of us will be back to our pre-Corona routine.

In case anyone else is like me, I thought it might be helpful ？ so I posted this.

Here's my follow-up report, I emailed UI but it doesn't look like I'll be hearing from them.

I made an INITIAL claim on July 6, called 250 times on July 8, and finally got through.

I haven't worked since last March, but as soon as the call connects, they ask for my social security number, which I have not had since last March.

Next, I was asked if I had ever gone back to work.

When I said no, they asked me ？ what was this amount I received last year, and when I said SEVERANCE, they asked me ？ what was the amount I received this year, and I said

it was SEVERANCE. I answered "SEVERANCE". I answered, " SEVERANCE.

Then he asked me to email him all my paystubs from last October to this March.

I emailed them all on July 8, but there was no action, and the last two I filed, for June 26 and July 3, are still pending.

Yesterday, the file for July 10 was ready, and when I filed it, it was displayed in a strange place. I am full of anxiety.

I'm so anxious that I called 300 times today and was able to get through, so I emailed them my paycheck stub and told them I wanted my account fixed

on PEUC's extension screen until September.

Thanks for sharing. I still see the trend of requesting copies of pay stubs, and it seems like the UI office is getting more and more detailed as we head into September, when the PEUC is likely to end.

June → September PEUC extension is in the middle of the season and there should be a flood of requests for Examiner Approval, so you will have to wait your turn.

The "Receiving Unemployment Insurance, and Working as a Sole Proprietor" Topic contains some tips, so you might want to look for the Topic and read it.

However, the call center advice seems to be scattered regarding sole proprietorships as well. If there are no advice posts, I would suggest contacting the call center and asking the call center staff to double check with the Examiner and ask how to apply currently. In the future, I think it would be easier to get the attention of people receiving UI unemployment insurance, including sole proprietors, if you post in the "Unemployment Insurance Receiving, Sole Proprietor Jobs" topic instead of this topic.
