*Wrap-up Status *

*Construction is nearly complete*

Construction is nearing completion on Madison and Spring streets. We’re focusing on finishing touches to fully wrap up the project. These include completion of bus station features, landscaping, signal-timing adjustments, curb striping, curb ramps, minor sidewalk touches and artwork installation.

What’s completed

* Major construction
* Roadway painting
* Signal and lighting installation and set up

We’ll continue to keep you informed and coordinate the finishing touches as needed.

*New Art Coming Soon!*

As part of the finishing touches, a public art installation is underway at the intersection of Madison St, 14th Ave, and Pike St. A sculpture by American artist Ben Zamora [ https://www.benzamora.com/about?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] is in progress. This vibrant piece consists of multiple-colored frames that intend to echo the surrounding architecture and reflect the diversity of the nearby communities.

Located where Capitol Hill, the Central District, and First Hill converge, the sculpture features two color gradients: a warm palette visible when facing east towards the sunrise and a cool palette when facing west towards sunset. The ever-changing composition mirrors the constant transformation of these neighborhoods.

As viewers move around the piece, it expands, contracts, and reinvents itself—much like the communities it intends to represent. This sculpture is a love letter to the people: honoring those who live here, those who have lived here, and welcoming those yet to come.

The artwork is expected to be installed by the end of this year.

*Detours and Restrictions *

*Lane reductions on Madison St and 2nd Ave*

Temporary lane reductions are still in place while crews replace and upgrade specialty brick pavers for the Federal building at the southwest corner of this intersection. During this work, one lane of traffic will be blocked. Pedestrian detours will be in place. Vehicle traffic will remain open.

*Reminders*

*How to use the new center-running bus stations and safe travel reminders*

* Center-running bus stations (boarding platforms) are a new feature to help you get on and off the bus more efficiently.
* You can reach the center-running stations from the sidewalk via crosswalks with traffic signals. Please watch out for cars, bikes, and other traffic while crossing the street onto the platforms.

* All bus stops along the RapidRide G Line route are located at intersections with traffic signals, so you can find a safe, marked crossing to catch the next bus.
* Thank you for your attention to safety as everyone adjusts to the new features along Madison St.

*Left turn restrictions *

The left turn restrictions that were implemented earlier this spring are now permanent. These restrictions are necessary to maintain safety and traffic flow for when RapidRide G service begins. Signage is currently in place for drivers where left turns are prohibited:

* Madison St to 8th Ave

* Madison St to Terry Ave

* Madison St to Minor Ave

* Madison St to Summit Ave

* Madison St to Boylston Ave

* Madison St to 10th Ave

* Madison St to 15th Ave

* Madison St to 17th Ave

* Madison St to 18th Ave

To support safety and traffic operations once the new bus lanes and bus island stations are built, we will permanently restrict left turns at other intersections on Madison St. from First Hill to Capitol Hill.

*King County Metro bus stop closures & relocations*

As construction wraps up, we may temporarily reroute buses or close and relocate bus stops. These detours and closures can change frequently. Please visit King County Metro's Transit Alert page [ https://kingcounty.gov/depts/transportation/metro/alerts-updates.aspx?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] for the most accurate information and sign up for Metro Transit Alerts [ https://kingcounty.gov/depts/transportation/metro/alerts-updates.aspx?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ]. Metro Alerts are the best way to stay up to date on bus reroutes and impacts to bus stops.

A few of the longer-term bus reroutes include:

*  The Route 2 continues to be rerouted through Capitol Hill. We are working on restoring this route to its original path in phases. The eastbound Route 2 has returned to its regular route. The return of the westbound Route 2 is expected in fall 2024.
