Release of Medicare Prescription Payment Plan Public-Facing Resources

This week CMS released a Medicare Prescription Payment Plan fact sheet and other public-facing resources related to the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan. Versions of the fact sheet in English, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese are live and Part D sponsors may share the fact sheet with Part D enrollees at the following links:

Additionally, CMS has released a public-facing webpage, available at https://www.medicare.gov/prescription-payment-plan, that includes information about the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan and an interactive wizard to help Part D enrollees determine if the payment option might help them.

CMS recognizes the importance of robust education and outreach efforts to ensure Part D enrollees are aware of and understand this new payment option. We encourage Part D sponsors and other interested parties to use the language and examples in the CMS-developed materials to craft their own educational materials, such as call center scripts, FAQs, and web content.

CMS is also developing a cost preview inside of the Medicare Plan Finder that’s based on a consumer’s specific drug list, a set of consumer-selected Medicare Advantage or Part D plans, and consumer-selected pharmacies, including both retail locations and mail order options. Part D sponsors can encourage consumers to visit Medicare Plan Finder and enter their drugs and the plan they have (or want to switch to) to get an estimate of monthly costs with and without this payment option. The cost preview will be available in time for open enrollment in the fall.
