Mayor's Update

National Night Out

NNO

________________________________________________________________________

Happy Friday, Kent!

I'm so excited about National Night Out on Tuesday! This annual, national event is all about community and connecting with your local police officers and residents.

There’s a good chance your neighborhood or one nearby is hosting a potluck, barbecue, ice cream social, or some kind of gathering.

So, talk to your neighbors, and come on out to meet our staff, officers, firefighters and your elected representatives!

This is a great opportunity to connect with us over good food, music and family fun. I hope you enjoy this week's update and have a fantastic weekend.

Dana Ralph, Kent Mayor

mayors

In June, myself along with Mayor Backus from Auburn and Mayor Pavone from Renton were chosen from the Association of Washington Cities to participate in the inaugural cohort of the Washington Collaborative Elected Leadership Institute (WA-CELI).

This is an amazing group of city leaders met last weekend to work with experts in breaking down political polarization, tackle community challenges, and build bridges with cities and towns across the state.

Our team will workshop real issues faced in our communities and develop a collaborative process to address these issues, while learning about challenges facing communities in other parts of the state.

I'm really looking forward to building these meaningful connections with others who are invested in improving the civic health of our state.

On Tuesday, I attended the annual Aegis Games in Kent.

The residents had an exciting round of paper airplane flying to see who could fly the furthest!

Over the next few weeks, residents and team members will participate in many Olympic-style events promoting physical fitness and cognitive health.

*Here's the resident question of the week!*

""Hello Dana! ""With all you see and do, is there something in particular that you are excited about for Kent in the coming months or years? One of my family members is considering moving to Kent so I figured I would reach out and see if you had some thoughts on this. Thanks!""

Well, that's a great question, and there's a lot to be excited about! As for something in particular, I would have to say that in the medium to long term, I am excited about the continued revitalization of our downtown.

We've had a number of improvement projects in recent years, and over the coming years, more improvements will better connect our historic downtown to Kent Station, Meeker Street, our parks and trails and beyond. Our vision is to keep elevating the opportunities that downtown has to offer, and I think that we're on the right track!
