Dear Friends,

I am wholeheartedly dedicated to connecting you with the resources you need and deserve to rebuild. Wildfire survivors deserve nothing less than clear and transparent answers about how they will be supported through their recovery process.

Many residents I’ve spoken with have repeatedly told me they’re worried about rebuilding. Governor Newsom issued an executive order to streamline the rebuilding process by cutting red tape, making it as efficient as possible, and waiving the CEQA requirement. I am calling upon all County Departments involved in the recovery and rebuilding process to go above and beyond to make this process simple, easy, and affordable. I know that our wildfire survivors want nothing more than to begin this process, and it’s our job as government to get out of the way.

I am going to see this through with you. I can assure you that the County will lead the restoration of neighborhoods that are safe, prosperous, and reflective of the beautiful and loving community that has always stood there.

Our Disaster Recovery Center continues to serve residents every day from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. to provide a one-stop shop for residents to access resources. We have all our County departments and federal, state, and local partners in one place. The site is at the Pasadena City College Community Education Center at 3035 E. Foothill Blvd.

Onsite staff will help you access FEMA financial assistance (for home repairs, personal property losses, childcare, transportation, or medical needs), State services (like the DMV and unemployment insurance), and County services (including property assessments, debris removal, employment assistance, vital records, health support, and more). According to our Sheriff's Department and Fire Department, reentry into burn areas hinges on ensuring the fire is completely out, eliminating risks of gas explosions or electrical issues, removing hazardous materials, and caring for any human remains. The County is working around the clock to check all of these boxes so residents can go back as soon as it's safe. Evacuation orders are updated daily at 3 p.m.

In areas impacted by the Eaton Fire, the County is putting up informative signs with guidance from the Department of Public Health for safe debris clean up with tips on what to wear and what to do inside and outside. Get guidelines for safe debris cleanup below.

This week, Hilton and American Express announced they're providing 20,000 free hotel room nights to people who've been displaced. In the wake of wildfires that have caused destruction and displacement for thousands of my constituents, I’m heartened by the compassion and care that our private sector partners have extended to neighbors in need. These vouchers offer survivors a safe and soft place to land as they plan toward the future and rebuild their lives.

While the last two weeks have been heavy for our County, here's a reason to smile: these two terrific pups. Meet Mr. Muggles, a sweet and spirited two-year-old German Shepherd mix, and Mystic, a loyal and curious one-year-old Siberian Husky mix. Both of these adorable dogs are staying at our Palmdale Animal Care Center, which is open for walk-ins Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
