Ward 15, Don Valley West By-election candidate nominations and third party advertiser registrations open Monday

Starting Monday, July 22, Toronto Elections will begin accepting candidate nominations for the office of Councillor in Ward 15, Don Valley West. The nomination period will be from Monday, July 22, at 8:30 a.m. to Thursday, September 19, at 2 p.m. Election Day is scheduled for Monday, November 4.

Advance voting for Ward 15 will be available on Saturday, October 26 and Sunday, October 27, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

To run for the office of Councillor, a person must:
• File a nomination paper with the original signature
• Provide proof of qualifying address within the city of Toronto
• Pay a $100 nomination filing fee
• Provide at least 25 endorsements of nomination from eligible Toronto voters with original signatures.

Nominations must be filed in person at the Toronto Elections City Hall office, located at 100 Queen St. W., first floor, Permit Alley. The office is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (excluding statutory holidays). On Thursday, September 19, the last day of the nomination period, the office will accept nominations from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Until a nomination paper is filed, a person cannot raise or spend any money on their campaign. Information about the nomination process is available on the Toronto Elections webpage: www.toronto.ca/elections/candidates.

Both the nomination paper and the endorsements of nomination must be completed on the prescribed forms and have original signatures. These forms and additional information are available on the Ward 15, Don Valley West By-election webpage: www.toronto.ca/byelection.

As nominations are filed, the real-time list of candidates will be available online. After the close of nominations on September 19, the final list of certified candidates will be available on the Ward 15, Don Valley West By-election webpage: www.toronto.ca/byelection.

Third Party Advertiser Registration
Between Monday, July 22 and Friday, November 1, a person, corporation or trade union which intends to spend money to promote, support or oppose a candidate in the Ward 15, Don Valley West By-election must register as a third party advertiser.

The Notice of Registration can only be filed in person at the Toronto Elections City Hall office. Registrations can be filed Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Monday, July 22 to Friday, November 1 (excluding statutory holidays).

The City Clerk must certify the registration before a third party advertiser can spend money on their campaign, accept contributions or begin advertising. Registered third party advertisers must identify themselves on advertisements and comply with requirements under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996.
