About the Conference*
CMS is excited to host the 2025 CMS Health Equity Conference on April 23-24, 2025, in Bethesda, MD, and available online for virtual participation. The theme of this year's conference is Building a Healthier America. CMS is now accepting proposals for breakout session speakers and poster presenters. Authors of accepted proposals will be invited to present at the conference. Submissions will close on January 21, 2025, at 5 p.m. PT.
*Which types of proposals can we submit?*
We are accepting proposals for the following types of presentations:
* "Lightning talks" (7 minutes each): These lightning talks will offer opportunities for speakers to quickly highlight their work, research, or lived experiences. Lightning talks will not include slides, materials, or Q&A and will be combined to create a 60-minute session.
* "Single presentations" (15 minutes each with joint Q&A): One presentation includes 1-2 members from the same organization presenting on a topic that connects to the conference theme and selected session track (see list of tracks below). Two single presentations on the topic will be grouped together to create a session, which will also include a joint Q&A at the end. Single presentation presenters must submit slides to accompany their presentation.
* "Posters": Posters will be featured in the poster hall during designated times throughout the conference. Poster presenters will be expected to be present during their assigned poster hour.
*What should proposals focus on?*
All proposals should focus on the conference theme, *Building a Healthier America*, and must demonstrate a connection to CMS programs (Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, Marketplace, models, or other CMS programs).
Additionally, all proposals must tie directly into one of the 13 conference tracks listed below. Proposals must demonstrate a clear link to the track selected by the submitter:
* Data access/collection
* Health workforce
* Language access and health literacy
* Accessibility
* Affordability
* Quality and safety
* Health in rural and geographically isolated communities
* Tribal health
* Maternal health
* Behavioral health
* Care for people with disabilities
* Economically disadvantaged communities
* Healthy lifestyle
*How do I submit a proposal?*
Proposals must be submitted by email to cmshealthequityconference@cms.hhs.gov on or before Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at 5 p.m. PT. *Please include "CMS Health Equity Conference Proposals Submission" in the subject line.* In your email, include the following information to be considered:

* Title credentials
* Affiliation(s)
*Please note: We can only accommodate up to 2 presenters for each lightning talk, single presentation or poster submission. All presenters must attend the conference in person on their assigned date (either April 23 or 24, 2025). We appreciate your ability to adhere to our guidelines.*
"Step 4 – Email and Next Steps "
Proposals must be submitted on or before Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at 5 p.m. PT. The point of contact for each proposal will receive confirmation of receipt via email. CMS will provide decisions to all points of contact via email by mid-February.
*What is the proposal review process?*
Proposals will be reviewed, scored, and selected by members of the CMS Heath Equity Conference Planning Committee. Proposals must demonstrate a connection to CMS programs (Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, Marketplace, models, or other CMS programs) and must tie directly into one of the 13 conference tracks listed above.
Additionally, the conference committee will use the following criteria to evaluate proposals:
* The proposal clearly aligns with the self-designated track.
* The proposal clearly pertains to one of the target populations served by CMS programs.
* The proposal clearly connects to a CMS program or policy. Please note that reviewers will not make assumptions about this connection and that simply listing CMS programs or policies is not sufficient. If a clear connection is not made, the proposal will be disqualified from consideration.
* The author(s) have demonstrated knowledge of the subject.
* The author(s) clearly articulate a health equity challenge or opportunity to be addressed.
* The proposal shows at least one measurable impact or opportunity for improving health equity within the stated target population.
* The reviewer finishes reading the proposal with a clear understanding of what the presenter intends to tell the audience.
