  Mayor's Update     Hello neighbor! I hope you’re enjoying the South City sun🌞! It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through the year, and we still have plenty of great improvements coming soon. You’re the first to know that soon we will be publishing a brand-new website and starting texting communications to keep people connected and informed! Stay tuned for updates, and read on to see what else is happening this summer. Here’s a sneak peak at what will be our new homepage:   Join the Anti-Displacement Community Advisory Committee (CAC) Come learn about the new South San Francisco Anti-Displacement Community Advisory Committee at our informational session on Tuesday, June 18 at 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Economic Advancement Center (366 Grand Ave.) or join by Zoom. Learn More   Join the Buri-Buri/Southwood Avalon Park / Brentwood (District 4) Town Hall with the Mayor! Have any questions for the city? Great new innovative ideas? Register Here   New Street Surface Seals Coming Soon This project will provide asphalt pavement maintenance of several residential, collector, and arterial streets in Downtown and Old Town neighborhoods of the city as part of the Pavement Management Program (PMP). The specific dates and times when residents will be impacted by the work will be communicated soon. Learn More   City Council Meeting Recap Congratulations to the five recipients of the 2024 Jack Drago Scholarship: Thomas Gatdula, Mattew Woo, Isabella Gonzalez, Hannah Olpindo, and Lauren Ta. We also honored Christina Ng and Cesar Dominguez for their service to the South San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, and made a couple of proclamations recognizing Lenita Boldenweek for her 12 years of service on the Cultural Arts Commission, and Juneteenth as National Freedom Day. Watch the Replay   Vote for Your Favorite Sticker Design Thanks to everyone who participated in our first ever sticker design contest! We received 35 amazing designs from talented artists throughout South City, and have narrowed it down to the top five that met our requirements (contains either "South San Francisco", "South City" or "SSF", be original artwork, and fit a 3x3 square) for you to vote on by June 21. Vote Here   UPCOMING SSF & LOCAL EVENTS   2024 June Art Show You are invited to the third quarterly art show presented by the Cultural Arts Commission featuring two-dimensional, three-dimensional, and mixed media works at the Library | Parks and Recreation Center 3rd floor gallery. Artwork will evoke themes highlighting the pinnacles of positive expression, inclusivity, summer’s essence, and the spirit of June celebrations. Admission is Free. (Library | Parks & Recreation Center, 901 Civic Campus Way) Tuesday, June 18, 2024, 2:00 P.M.: Crime and Violence Prevention for our Senior Community with SSFPD Stop by and listen to the SSF Police Department talk about local scams and community safety tips. A Q&A session will follow the presentation. (Library | Parks & Recreation Center, 901 Civic Campus Way) Saturday, June 22, 2024, 12:00 P.M.: Juneteenth Celebration with Buffalo Soldier Reenactors Celebrate Juneteenth with the Buffalo Soldiers of the 10th Cavalry, Company G of Northern California with a short film and talk on African Americans in the Civil War and the Buffalo Soldiers. Enjoy a display of Civil War artifacts and traditional Juneteenth red velvet cupcakes. (Library | Parks & Recreation Center, 901 Civic Campus Way)   Anonymous Fireworks Buyback Event Fireworks are illegal in South San Francisco. The South San Francisco Police and Fire Departments are partnering with the San Mateo County Sherriff’s office to host an anonymous fireworks buyback event on June 22.   Bike Lanes for the Boulevards We’re committed to the full realization of the City’s Bike and Pedestrian Master Plan to make walking and biking safer and more enjoyable. Help plan the next step in this process as we look for ways to make improvements for bike and pedestrian access along Junipero Serra and Westborough Boulevards by attending our community workshop on June 25. Register Here     COMMUNITY RESOURCES A New Summer Food Program Coming Starting this summer, you can buy more food for your child with California SUN Bucks, also called Summer-EBT. SUN Bucks works just like CalFresh, but for the summer. Children who qualify for free or reduced-price school meals through a school meal application or an Alternative Income Form, or get CalFresh, CalWORKs, or Medi-Cal, are automatically enrolled. You don't need to do anything to sign up. SUN Bucks provides $40 per month for food for June, July, and August 2024 ($120 total). Learn More   A New Summer Food Program Coming You could be eligible for up to $1,000 to purchase or lease an e-bike! This incentive is available to income-qualified residents in San Mateo County and the City of Los Banos. Participants will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis.
