Our Police Department provided some helpful tricks to keep your holiday full of treats. 👻 Also coming up is election day! Tuesday, November 5, 2024 is the last day to register in person. Check your registration status on California’s election website.   Presidential General Election - 2024 Vote Center The Library Parks & Recreation Center is now open as a 2024 Vote Center! Cast your vote on the 2nd floor in the Library Community Room. You can also drop off your mail ballot in the ballot box located outside next to the building's parking lot. Other ballot boxes can be found in the front of City Hall and the City Hall parking lot. Learn More   Minimum Wage Notice On January 1, 2025 the City of South San Francisco’s minimum wage will adjust by the 2024 Consumer Price Index and increase to $17.70/hour. Learn More   City Council Recap At this week’s meeting, the City of South San Francisco is recognizing November 1, 2024 as Extra Mile Day. City council meetings are now available to livestream on our YouTube channel. I encourage you to visit our project page to learn more about the history, goals, and progress we’ve made in partnership with the community to develop a park that meets the needs of our neighbors. Learn More   Read the New Blueprint Buzz Learn More   UPCOMING SSF & LOCAL EVENTS     DIY Trick-or Treat Bag Decorating 🎃 Get into the Halloween spirit with our DIY Trick-or-Treat Bags program at the Grand Avenue Library (306 Walnut Street)! Design and decorate your own trick-or-treat bag with stencils and paint. All ages are welcome, and all materials will be provided (until supplies last). Come have fun and get ready for Halloween! Learn More   👻Halloween at Historical Plymire-Schwarz House The Plymire-Schwarz House (519 Grand Avenue) is decorated and glowing for All Hallows' Eve. Come by Saturdays (1-4) to visit our haunted halls (admittance is free) or take a walk one evening to enjoy the spooky sights and eerie unknowns in candle-lit rooms peering out of the window. They will be handing out candy on Halloween night so be sure to stop by for a sweet treat - no tricks! Learn More The Plymire-Schwarz House was South San Francisco General Hospital? This colonial revival style house at 519 Grand Avenue was originally at the northwest corner of Grand and Spruce Avenues. It was built in 1905 by Doctor Harry Garritson Plymire. While he saw patients in the Martin Brick Block (corners of Grand and Maple Avenues) this proud building served as his private residence as well as his offices. In 1913, Dr. Plymire converted this house to “South San Francisco General Hospital” - the first hospital between San Francisco and San Mateo. Learn more from our friends at the Historical Society of South San Francisco!   Save the Date: Thanksgiving Fun Run The 51st annual Thanksgiving Fun Run will take place on Saturday, November 23, 2024, after the ribbon-cutting of the new Oyster Point Park Phase 2C at 9:00 a.m. Whether you are looking for challenging competition, an excuse for an enjoyable family stroll along the beautiful Bay Trail, or a convenient route, this race is for you! Registration now open (select "special events") Ages / Fee Youth (12Y & under): Free Teen (13Y - 17Y): $6.00 Adults (18Y & up): $10.00 T-Shirts $20. Your input will help develop the 101 Corridor Connect: US 101 San Mateo County Crossings Improvement Implementation Plan (Active 101). Active 101 aims to identify priority crossing and corridor improvement needs to enhance conditions for people walking, rolling, biking, and using transit along US 101. You can share your feedback using an online mapping tool to tell the TA which active transportation improvements are most needed near US 101.
