From decluttering workshops to teen events, a Day of Service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and vibrant Lunar New Year celebrations, the City has a packed calendar of events for all interests this January. 2025 Council Priorities Survey: Deadline Monday, January 6 Each year, the City Council reviews its priorities for the year at its annual Council Retreat. A Council priority is defined as a topic that will receive significant attention during the year. 2024 Council priorities were: Climate Change & Natural Environment-Protection & Adaptation, Community Health, Safety, Wellness & Belonging, Economic Development & Transition, and Housing for Social & Economic Balance. An online survey is available to share feedback on what priorities you would like to see the City Council adopt for 2025. Survey closes at noon on January 6. Planning & Transportation Commission Recruitment The City is recruiting for three positions on the Planning & Transportation Commission (PTC). This commission plays a vital role on key topics such as land use, transportation programs, zoning, the Comprehensive Plan, and more. Add a New Hobby to Increase Your Happiness: While many of us are setting goals and thinking about the year to come, consider starting a new hobby to support your happiness and well-being. Some ideas include: walks in Palo Alto parks and nature preserves, writing and journalling, meditation, and volunteering to support local efforts. Recipe of the Week: Get warm and cozy with this delicious turmeric and coconut fish curry filled with warming spices and anti-inflammatory benefits. Family Resources The Healthy Home Blueprint - Decluttering for Health and Harmony: Start the New Year by creating a healthy home. Learn about removing items that don’t serve you at this Mitchell Park Library workshop on Saturday, January 4 at 11 a.m. 2D Animation – Digital Drawing: Kids and teens can join a crash course on the basics of 2D animation and get a chance to experiment with apps to create art. Bring a tablet with a stylus to join in this program on Sunday, January 5 at 2 p.m. at Mitchell Park Library. Join a Book Club: Read more and make friends in 2025! The Palo Alto Pageturners meets the second Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at Rinconada Library. The Graphic Novel Book Club meets the second Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. at Mitchell Park Library. The Brown Bag Book Club meets virtually the second Tuesday of every month at 12 p.m. The YA Reads for Adults Book Club meets the fourth Thursday of every month at 6:45 p.m. at Rinconada Library. Friday Night at the Art Center: Celebrate the Art Center's winter exhibition "Cut from the Same Cloth: Textile & Technology" with the artists on Friday, January 24. Plus, enjoy specialty cocktails and hands-on artmaking from 6 - 8 p.m. Upcoming Library Closures: Rinconada Library will be closed on Monday, January 6 and Mitchell Park Library will be closed on Monday, January 13 for maintenance.
